Cameron Wood The Pinball Tilt

The focus of the piece was on Stern Pinball Inc., the sole remaining maker of pinball machines in North America. What was most interesting was the statistical data contained in the piece - which was originally penned for the New York Times.

The company, which once made about 27,000 machines annually, now produces only about 10,000. More intriguing was that Gary Stern, owner of the firm, admitted that half of those new machines go directly to home sales.

“The thing that’s killing pinball is not that people don’t like it. It’s that there’s nowhere to play it,” says Tim Arnold, proprietor of Las Vegas’ Pinball Hall of Fame.
