Sugary vending snacks: Here to stay, for now
Written by National Post
June 17, 2010 – The refreshment industry fought off a push to have vending machines in city parks and recreation facilities go 100% healthy, at least for now. Council decided to delay a decision on banning pop and energy drinks for a year, reports the National Post.

“I’ve received letters from Coca-Cola and Pepsi, and they are good corporate citizens … and I don’t think it would be fair to have this discussion without their input at all,” said Councillor Mike Del Grande (Scarborough-Agincourt).

The proposal was to phase in the sale of only juice, vegetable and milk products at vending machines, starting next year. Staff had said the city would likely take a financial hit under the proposed restrictions.
