Boulder Canyon Authentic Foods has launched Coconut Oil Kettle Cooked Potato Chips, a kettle-style potato chip cooked exclusively in better-for-you coconut oil.
Coconut Oil Kettle Cooked Potato Chips are made in the traditional Boulder Canyon manner, using only real, clean food ingredients that are simple to read and easy to understand, the company said in a press release, adding that the chips have just three ingredients: potatoes, coconut oil and sea salt.
Like all of the company’s snacks, the chips contain no trans fats, no cholesterol and no MSG. In addition, they are gluten-free, kosher-certified and Non-GMO Project-verified, the company said.
The chips are cooked using a small-batch kettle method, which uses 100 per cent coconut oil to provide a crunch and a light finish. Additionally, Boulder’s kettle cooked approach provides 22 per cent less fat when compared to traditional continuous-cooking methods.
“We’ve introduced a number of chips cooked in premium oils in the past year, including olive and avocado oils, so we felt coconut oil was really the next frontier,” said Steve Sklar, senior vice-president and general manager for Boulder Canyon Authentic Foods. “In this case, the coconut oil imparts a subtle flavour that isn’t so much sweet as it is buttery and rich. At the same time, the finish is incredibly light and clean. We touch it with just a hint of sea salt so as not to mask any of the natural flavors, and the result is a potato chip that is different than anything you can find in the snack food aisle today.”
