The SMART PICK nutrition standards and criteria are simple to adopt and a minimum of 20 per cent of selections must be offered to meet criteria.

Mississauga, Ont. – The board of directors of CAMA was excited to announce SMART PICK, an effective and credible program identifying healthier choice products for vending, micro markets and break room solutions on Sept. 17 at the Victoria Conference Centre during the recent Expo.

Program goals include offering a healthier choice for consumers; providing a nudge to encourage the selection of healthier options; and increasing rather than restricting healthier food, snack and beverage choices.

The SMART PICK nutrition standards and criteria are simple to adopt and a minimum of 20 per cent of selections must be offered to meet criteria.

The program was developed by dietitian April Saunders, MPH, RD, CDE, working closely with a CAMA committee charged with the development of the program. Review of healthy vending program comparisons, relevant literature related to nutrition, as well as provincial, national and international guidelines for healthy snack nutrition guidelines were all part of the development process.
