Ottawa – The Bank of Canada issued the Canada 150 bank note on June 1. Gov. Stephen S. Poloz and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance Ginette Petitpas Taylor marked the occasion by each spending a commemorative $10 at a downtown Ottawa business.

This note will circulate along with the existing $10. It will be available at financial institutions starting June 1, the Bank of Canada said in a news release. Since this commemorative note will be issued in a limited number, and may be retained as a keepsake, its volume and time in circulation may be limited.

The Canada 150 bank note celebrates the 150th anniversary of Confederation with a unique design depicting our history, culture and land. It offers a number of security features (see video), some new and others that are similar to those on the current series of polymer notes. These features make the note easy to check and difficult to counterfeit.

Those who have any questions about machine compatibility with the Canada 150 commemorative note, should contact their equipment supplier or manufacturer directly.
