In 2001 the The van Blommestein family immigrated from South Africa to Washington, DC. What started as a Saturday morning hobby between a father and his sons over 15 years ago, slowly marinated into Ayoba-Yo as they came to realize that their products truly were improvements on the ‘meat’iocre beef snacks that were available.

Their goal was to introduce the USA to more sophisticated, nutritious, and delicious alternatives to meat snacks.

Ayoba-Yo is a slang term or colloquial saying in parts of South Africa that is used to express agreement and approval. If you like something, you say “That’s Ayoba-Yo!”

Ayoba-Yo expertly crafts their Biltong, Droëwors, and Boerewors using their own authentic family recipe and a method that their ancestors have been using for over 400 years. Ayoba-Yo focuses on minimal ingredients to achieve optimal flavour. The recipes are simply Meat, Vinegar and Spices. Ayoba-Yo Biltong, Droëwors & Boerewors contain no sugar, no artificial preservatives, no artificial ingredients, no nitrates, no fillers and are gluten & soy free.

Ayoba-Yo Biltong is crafted with premium cuts of beef that are sliced by hand, marinated, and dried by air for fourteen days, instead of being heated or smoked like other jerky and meat snacks. “The key is in our unique drying process,” says Co-Founder and youngest brother in the family business, Wian van Blommestein. “We use the same drying method our ancestors have been using for over 400 years, which results in a naturally tender beef snack that doesn’t need any sugar or chemicals,” he continues, “making our grass fed beef snacks naturally delicious.”

Ayoba-Yo is currently sold in Whole Foods in Washington, DC, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, New Jersey, Ohio. They will be launching next month in Whole Foods in Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and New York. The products can also be found in specialty food stores.
