Joshua Applestone, found of Applestone Meat Co., started using vending machines to sell frozen meat in four New York state locations.

Applestone found a market that caters to the busy North American lifestyle where clients can not go to a butcher to get cuts of meat before 5 p.m.  The demand for affordable frozen meat is high: Applestone plans to expand to another 10 locations by the end of 2019.

The response to the meat vending machines was impressive. Within two years of launching his frozen meat vendors, Applestone now sells over 3000 pounds of meat per week; he has to restock them daily to keep up with demand. Each refrigerated machine is filled with a variety of pork, beef, lamb and ground meat selections such as sausage. All machines are open 24/7.

The butcher started with a custom made machine, that he rigged from a sandwich dispensing machine, often found in hospitals or school cafeterias. All machines are credit card accessible, and clients felt comfortable selecting their frozen meat from a machine they felt familiar with.
