Mexico’s junk-food tax cut purchases: study

Mexico City – A study published Tuesday in the online journal PLOS-Medicine has found that Mexico’s 8 per cent tax on high-calorie foods that began in January 2014 has led to a 5.1 per cent decrease in purchases of the taxed goods, but only in middle- and low-income families.
