MintChip passes new milestone
Jan. 13, 2014, Atlanta – Royal Canadian Mint’s new MintChip is the first digital currency that is backed by the Government of Canada.
The first proof-of-concept implementation for MintChip is being displayed this week at the National Retail Federation’s Annual Convention and EXPO in New York.
Royal Canadian Mint is going to discuss its work on the MintChip platform, which is still in research and development, and demonstrate how retailers can accept cash digitally at an Ingenico point-of-sale device.
First announced in spring 2012, this new technology is meant as a digital alternative to all coinage and small bank notes.
