The Swiss mega-corp and Starbucks have closed a $7.1 billion deal to sell the coffee chain’s coffee pods, beans and packaged coffee.

As Canadian Vending had reported in May, Nestlé had positioned itself to forge an alliance with Starbucks to sell their packaged products. This includes affiliated brands, such as Seattle’s Best Coffee, TeavanaTM/MC and Torrefazione Italia coffee.

This plan benefits both parties. Starbucks’ three-pronged plan includes global expansion which would be made easier with Nestlé’s purchase. As part of this alliance, Starbucks employees in the United States and Europe will join Nestlé in its headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland.

This is Nestlé’s third-largest acquisition in the history of the company.
