Cheetos calls Peatos a copycat
Frito-Lay, a division of PepsiCo has sent a cease and desist letter to the better-for-you snacking upstart, World Peas Brand Peatos.
Both are puffed snacks with a bright orange hue, but Peatos is made with lentils and real cheese. Where Peatos has an orange tiger on its package, Cheetos’ orange bag features a similar-looking wildcat, a cheetah.
However, the cease and desist motion also refers to Peatos’ marketing campaign that takes a dig at the Cheetos’ mascot, Chester Cheetah. The legume-based snack features a paw-print logo and the slogan, “Tigers live longer than cheetahs.”
PepsiCo is currently attempting to cultivate a healthier lifestyle brand image, as seen in its recent acquisition of SodaStream.
