With non-stop changes, how can operators anticipate future trends and get a lock on potential business opportunities? HostMilano, Italy’s annual trade show directly organized by Fiera Milano, represents the leading event in the vending and coffee sales industry. The 41st edition is set to take place at Fiera Milano from the18th to the 22nd of October 2019.

Among features of interest for those in automated sales, the Smart Label Award, complemented by the Design Talks workshops in partnership with POLI.design, will spotlight the more avant-garde aspects of sector innovation.

Those in pantry services or office coffee sales should take note of the Italian Coffeehouse Grand Prix with ACAF and ALTOGA to learn about the latest trends in coffee service. The annual 6th Gran Prix of Italian Coffee Bars will be featured again this year.

Forecast looks good for imports and exports as CETA, the free trade agreement between the European Union and Canada, provides the elimination of tariffs on 92 per cent of European exports; this opens up markets and also facilitate the entry of European firms into Canada.

Imports already account for a large slice of the profitable Canadian catering and office coffee service market. In 2017, more than two billion euros was spent on machinery, equipment and accessories for professional catering, with two thirds of imports in the premium-price range. An average annual increase of more than 6 per cent by value is forecast between 2018 and 2021.

As for coffee, which has a higher consumption among adults than tap water, imports were worth 691 million euros, and that covered covering coffee, coffee-making machinery and vending machines, 5.4 per cent of which supplied by Italy (approximately 38 million euros): Italy is the third largest supplier of coffee and coffee-making machinery. Premium-price imports account for around 34 per cent of the total; in these segments, purchases from Italy appear relatively limited (just 5 per cent of the market). However, an average annual growth of more than 3.9 per cent is forecast for 2018-2021.

HostMilano, which offers a particularly good vantage point from which to view international markets, continues the intense programme organized by Fiera Milano that takes it to workshops, events and sector fairs around the world, enabling it to gain footholds in the most well-established, consolidated markets. All of this ahead of the 41st edition of the fair this October, will bring together at Fieramilano Rho, the most innovative concerns in the world of Ho.Re.Ca., foodservice, retail, large-scale distribution and the hotel industry.

The ability to anticipate future trends has seen HostMilano rise to become the sector’s leading event: with a year still to go until opening day, 1,251 companies have already confirmed their participation, with 44.7 per cent of these hailing from 45 different countries, including new entries Albania, Latvia and Columbia. The top seven countries by number of exhibitors are set to be Germany, Spain, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Portugal, while Spain and the UK reveal the strongest growth rates.

Thanks to continuous scouting activities in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency, there will be over 1,500 hosted buyers from 80 different countries in attendance, with an 80 per cent turnover and a focus on the USA, Canada, the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, China and Russia. Media coverage is also significant, with at least 100 journalists invited and partnerships with over 75 international publishing companies, primarily in Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East. The event counts on institutional agreements with important international associations such as the FCSI – Foodservice Consultants Society International, Restaurants Canada, CEDA (UK) and AFEHC (Spain), in addition to a number of distinguished Italian associations.
