Nissin Cup Noodles vending machines use Instagram as currency
Nissin Foods USA has teamed up with digital media house, Foodbeast to create a vending machine that runs on social media.
The machines will be placed within Del Amo Fashion Center (near Lids) in Los Angeles County starting March 1, and Las Vegas Premium Outlets South (near Volcom) starting March 6.
The Dream Machine dispenses its cups of instant ramen noodles by prompting the users to take a photo with their vending machine. Once the buyer posts their photo to Instagram with a special hashtag dispensed by the machine, a prize is dispensed. Prizes range from ranging from free Cup Noodles to JumpForce video games, and occassionally, gift cards to various retailers.
This is one of the first examples of vending machines using social media as currency, and gaining information on their customer base using Instagram to learn about their customer’s habits, preferences and behaviour patterns.
