June 3, 2009 – In a few weeks, an Italian company will present its re-imagining of the
vending machine. Rather than serving up coffee, chips or chocolate
bars, the new gizmo will produce pizza—ready to eat after about three
minutes of infrared cooking.

First there was a machine that drizzled out instant coffee, then a
simulated frothy cappuccino. What could be next to tempt our yen for
instant gratification, no human contact required?

Pizza, of course! Made from scratch, baked and ready to eat at the
touch of a button in just under three minutes for five euros, around
US$6. All from Italy, where the making of pizza has been a
