Quality Coffee Certification offered at NAMA
February 14, 2011, Chicago – The National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) will be offering its new and expanded Quality Coffee Certification Program (QCCP) at the NAMA OneShow.
The show, which will be held at Chicago’s McCormick Place North April 27-29, features everything new in the vending, coffee service and foodservice management industry.
Sponsored by Folgers with in kind sponsors Newco Enterprises and Everpure LLC, the Brewing Fundamentals workshop will be held from 8:00am to 3:00pm on April 26. Participants will learn the basic theory and principles involved in preparing filtered coffee, and taste how the slightest change in the brewing formula can alter the taste profile. New this year are results from an in-depth study of single-portion products and equipment, and a hands-on evaluation of single-portion coffee systems.
From 8:00am to 2:00pm pm April 27, a Coffee Fundamentals workshop will also be held. Industry veteran Mike Tompkins, of Coffee Products Associates, will share his expertise and knowledge as participants learn about the development of coffee flavour qualities from the country of origin. Guided tasting exercises will help participants experience origin and blended coffees. The workshop will also feature an expanded water filtration session and the effect water has on the taste profile.
“The QCCP is entering its 11th year of providing the finest educational experience devoted entirely to the office coffee industry, and we are pleased to announce that since its inception, over 1,000 individuals have completed the two-day workshops,” said Roger Stewart, NAMA’s director of coffee and water service.
Advanced registration is required for the QCCP. The cost for each session is $250, but registrants can attend both workshops for $450. After completing both sessions, attendees will be eligible to apply for the Certified Coffee Specialist (CCS) certification.
