Ottawa – A graduate student at University of Ottawa launched an initiative to make affordable, reusable water bottles available through campus vending machines.

U of O had banned bottled water in a waste reduction program that started in 2010.Celeste Digiovanni started this project, ensuring that the aluminum bottles were comparative in price to bottled water. The reusable bottles cost $3 each, and are sold empty, encouraging students to refill publicly.

The bottles, called “H 2 Ottawa” are fully recyclable. Digiovanni hopes this trend will catch on at other universities or corporations.
