July 4, 2014, Niagara Falls, Ont. – Advanced Card Systems recently presented case study detailing its smart card reader for cashless payments in amusement centres and other applications.

Bob Merkert, president for the Americas of Advanced Card Systems, a large Asia-Pacific-based supplier of PC-linked smart card readers, presented a paper about prepaid and loyalty systems at Cardware 2014. Cardware 2014, held from June 17 to 18 in Niagara Falls, Ont., covered
current payment issues and opportunities for mobile, online and secure
payments.

Merkert used as a case study the e-PLUS, an end-to-end solution provided by ACS to SM, a major mall developer, operator, and retail company in the Philippines.

The e-PLUS system includes a contactless stored value card. In SM malls, the card may be used for cashless payments in cinemas, parking facilities, amusement centres and food courts. The card is also accepted in certain schools, bookstores and printers. In his presentation, Merkert outlined the capabilities and potential impact of the e-PLUS, which is geared toward both operators and consumers.
